I've been prolific throughout 2021, and as I was releasing my previous album, I was already working on this one. I say this every time, but THIS is the best album I've ever made. In saying that, I actually hope I'm wrong and that I'll just continue to learn more and hone my craft.
As per usual, here's a little insight into each track.
BREACH
Not only is this track the first of the album, but it's also the first one I made chronologically. The sound is very similar to the tracks from my previous album. I almost didn't include this track in the album, but I think it's deserving of its place.
FLASH RAID
I always mention my influences for every album and almost every track, and this is no exception. This track's heavily influenced by battle music from the Pokémon franchise, with my own unique spin.
CRAZYTURBOPSYCHO
This is the fastest track on the album by far, and possibly one of the highest tempo tracks I've ever made. I didn't have any direct influences for this track, but aimed to create something frenetic and crazy. Friends and family have said it sounds very video game-y or something you'd hear in a Sonic The Hedgehog game, although I don't think it's "happy" enough for one.
RABBITHEAD II
If you've listened to my older stuff, particularly the stuff I made under the name Captain Esoteric, then this track will be familiar. Since those days, I think I've drastically improved my music and my style. What better way to show that then to go back and redo something older? I think I've done alright with this track, especially considering what I had to work with.
THE CARPET BOMB INCIDENT
In my opinion, this track is up there with my best. Like Flash Raid, this track takes a lot of inspiration from Pokémon battle themes. I like to imagine these tracks working well in a Pokémon game set in the post-apocalypse.
THE ADVENTURES OF BARNABY MCDONK ~ A RHAPSODY
I'd been listening to a lot of happy hardcore and old-school dance bangers while composing this track. This song's in G Major (trust me, this is important), and as I was making it, an idea formed. If you listen to the middle of this song, you'll see what I mean. I got the idea for this track's title from "The Adventures Of Grandmaster Flash On The Wheels Of Steel" and the name Barnaby McDonk from my own weird head. Barnaby because it's an old-style name and McDonk because the song's got a bit of a DONK on it.
ARBITRATOR
Unlike my other albums, there's no one track that's a complete lurch from the rest. This one is probably the closest thing to the "odd track out", however. For this track, I focused on trying to tell a story with it. Inspirations include all my usual influences.
FUNKY MONKEY'S INDOCTRINATION CENTRE!
This track originally started as an attempt to make something a bit psytrance-y. Needless to say, I forgot all about that and just went a bit weird with it. Like most of my tracks, the best bit is at the last 40-50 seconds.
DYSTOPIA SHUFFLE
Yes, the intro is heavily inspired by the intro to "theme of a really cool bird". This song started as a cover for that song, but I wasn't feeling it, so I did my own thing. I think this track features the best use of drums, with some funky and creative beats. I also genuinely bop to the piano bit.
