You walk over to Rosie. She’s still alive, but looks drained. The sadistic look in her eyes is replaced with a gentle, teary expression.
She groans in pain.
“Thank you, little brother.”
She uses the last of her strength to clasp your hand.
“Thank you so much. I love you.”
Her eyes slowly close and her body goes limp. You fall onto your knees and grab Rosie’s body. Tears stream down your face as you hug her body tightly. You decide that Rosie deserves a proper funeral, so you put her body onto your shoulder and prepare to leave.
You walk back through the facility, as all the chaos around you fades into white noise.
When you reach the entrance, you snap back into reality. You open the door with a weary sigh and are greeted by Melissa and Julius.
“I’m sorry.” Julius says, placing a hand on your other shoulder.
“I’m so glad you’re back.” Melissa says, looking at you with a worried expression.
You realise you don’t have the energy to speak, so you give a half-smile and walk off.
As you exit the department building and walk off into the distance, you start to think to yourself. You think about the friends you made at work. You think about Melissa. You think about the ESPers locked in that facility against their will. You think about Rzeznik. You think about Rosie. You think about how your family will react. You wonder if your next job will be as stressful as this one.
